RE Cordyline frost damage: I've just looked at the base of the tree and seen a dark brown patch when I push my thumb into it,hard, a clear liquid appears.Any ideas? My wife say's it's the sap moving up the trunk so is it alive or dead?

If this is the picture Lee, all I can say is listen to Anchorman. He's the man!

What, and I'm not, Tetrarch? Anchorman didn't answer the other question - but I did...

Um, can I just say I'm actually female... and I wondered, Tetrarch, if you'd mistaken the avatar - I have now, as you can see, changed mine back to the Alliums, lol. You're not the only one who's made this mistake - I'm still not sure the alliums are different enough from Anchorman's though.

I shall check up on my copyright!

Ah, thanks for coming on Anchorman - I see now that my alliums are, indeed, different enough...

It was just that Anchorman's was the only one roughly that colour (not side by side of course!) and you did a quick slight of hand on me Bamboo..its so easy to get confused when you get doddery! Does anyone know if there is a magnifying glass I can hang over my monitor??

It's not as bad as you think, Tetrarch - my earlier avatar was a single blue/purple Playtcodon flower, and at first glance, was not dissimilar from Anchorman's avatar in colour. That's why I've now changed it to the lilac flowers, and I only did that late last night.

No you're not, so hold the call to the men in white coats, lol!

Gee Thanks for that Bamboo! Sorry Lee, your poor Cordyline is fast losing out to the nutcases!! I just hope the laughter makes it feel better!

Well, sorry to say that my Cordyline has died. It gave my family a lot of pleasure as it grew to such a vast height.
Now a nice cheery tree is in it's place

Another casualty of the winter then - hope you enjoy your new tree as much.

I answered this under your original question, though it's good to see a picture of it. Wait, as I said in the other answer - if that gets worse, starts obviously rotting, pouring out orangey liquid, you may need to take it right down to the ground and let the new growth at the base grow on, but not before April.
