Do you have to cut the old leaves off a hellebores once the new shoots are showing? The ones I planted last year are not showing any new shoots yet. I live in southern England. Grateful for any advice. Thank you

It's up to you . . . as Tony says, remove any that look unsightly - or any that will give the flowers extra light.

Some people do, to display the flowers better, but I don't (unless as above).

Just remove old, damaged or faded foliage as the new shoots appear.
