I have a south west facing wall which I would like to cover with something pretty. My main problem is the wind, which seems to blow constantly, so whatever I plant needs to be pretty tough. I don't want clematis montana as I have one on the other side of the gate way. Thanks in advance.

Yes, or Chaenomales (Japanese quince): there are several varieties, all have lovely flowers and glossy dark green leaves.

A ceanothus would look lovely. They particularly like being grown against a wall in a sunny sheltered spot.
