When should you dig up gladioli bulbs to store for the winter. Should they be stored somewhere dark on in a greenhouse ?

I'm leaving mine in the ground this year to see if they come back, as they were free anyway. Previously I have dug them up as Spritz say's once it's all died back. I brushed off the dirt and stored them in a wooden try with a piece of paper over the top. then planted the following spring.

You can dig them up and store them, after the leaves have died back. Then store them in a cool dark place away from vermin. Remove the cormlets when/if you do, and plant them in pots in the spring - they take up to three years to reach flowering size. I leave my Gladioli in the ground and they come up again.
