have a bourganvillia in a pot in the conservatory. Not dead but very inactive apart from the odd tendril that shoots up every year and flowers, apart from that i just get leaves on old wood. Should i repot? if so what soil/compost should i use?

There is a wonderful specialist Bougainvillea nursery near Bradford-on-Avon (www.westdalenurseries.co.uk), their email address is on their site. They sell special Bougainvillea compost, and advise repotting "tight" so that the roots don't have much room. I'm sure they'd give you more advice by email, or phone.

Good luck - they're such beautiful plants, it's worth persevering!
