My tree-sized cordyline which has suffered from two hard winters, has developed an orange and white substance at the base. Can this be treated? Will it kill the plant and spread to other plants? The plant, although dead, sprouted a bit last year, and is a significant feature in my garden which I hoped to train Ivy to climb.

Please see the copied answer to the question from Jimmyjames about Cordyline - it's fifth or sixth below yours.
