If I plant crocus bulbs under a yew tree will they flower

Answers

A hesitant 'yes' from me. Being a conifer, the yew tree will block a lot of rain from reaching the ground during the winter and early spring causing the soil to be quite dry. Crocuses prefer a moist soil at this time to encourage them into growth. The dryness will be beneficial to them in summer when they are dormant. I would think that they will do well the first year but then performance will tail off and the bulbs will stop flowering after a few years.
Crocus planted under a decidous tree would be another matter as the winter rain can get through the empty branches but the leaves will protect the bulbs in summer.
Try a fewthis year and see how they get on.

i will also say yes but they do not bulk up as quickly as the others in the sunny parts of the garden. They are not right under the tree but they are about 10" from the ain trunk.

Unless they get direct sunlight during some part of the day the flowers will not open fully.
