I have a mature (6 ft) Myrtle that appears to have died, would the harsh winter have killed it off?

Yes, quite possibly - they're only just frost hardy. Nonetheless, I'd give it till April at least - it may yet show signs of growth from, or near, the base. Unless it was in a pot, in which case its probably a goner.

i have one in my garden which looks fine, but i think if yours looks abit sickly you may have lost it, but i would leave it awhile like Bamboo says it may spring back with new shoots.
