Hi its me again..
OK I have some fruit trees in large containers and the base is very boring, what bulbs can i put into the pot with the trees for colour in summer I have cow slips and primroses in them now but would love any ideas of stunning colour but obviously not too high about 30 - 60 cm (1 to 2 ft) and preferaqbly ones that will come back every year.... told you I was new to all this!

Try Triteleia - they're very pretty, grown from bulbs and come back every year. Anemone de Caen are lovely as well.

Oh yes, they are pretty. What about Chives too...then you could also eat them!...and there are other small alliums that flower in the summer too.

Then there's Oxalis deppei - not invasive! The flowers are coral-coloured. They are also hardy and so they'll come back year after year, unlike many summer-flowering bulbs which need lifting in the autumn.

Aka Oxalis 'Iron Cross' Karen. Haven't you come across them before?

Well B, I have seen Oxalis before, and I once had one as a houseplant, but no, I haven't grown them outdoors before. I'll go and have a look at that. Thanks x

« Does anyone know when is the best time to seperate these Pinks please
There are some nice lilies that have been bred very short. I am going for trailing sweetpeas myself, but they are annuals of course. What about Nasturtiums? They are annuals of course, but they always self seed, and can grow in poor soil. They would trail nicely over the sides of the pot and on to the ground. Dutch Iris? Begonias, but you'd have to lift them during the winter. What about some low growing alpines...they are perennial...I have some nice sedums that trail, they are very pretty. Have fun! Karen
