In a boggy area Pany? Neither heather nor roses will grow there. It is possible your soil is neutral or slightly acidic in which case you wont need ericaceous compost for your heathers. Roses need good light or they are likely to get mildew.

Heather is quite a good one. I have a few heather plants which are doing well in the shade. They are also quite hardy. The other funny thing about my type of heather(homebase) is that even though it needs ericaceous compost mine are in normal soil so bare that in mind. Also you could possibly even have a few rose bushes? They don't seem to care.
