Freezing Temps and Asparagus

One of my asparagus plants (this is their third year in the garden) is sending up shoots. It was very warm last week and caused just one of my seven asparagus plants to start shooting up. There are freezing temps this weekend. Should I cover the shoots with some extra mulch for insulation or should I go ahead and break/cut them off?

If they are close to harvest size, go ahead. If they are too short, mulch them with something loose and light, or put in a couple of stakes to hold some floating row cover up over their "heads".
