Perennials - though some may need protection from frost.. Annuals have to be grown from seed each year. Some may seed themselves, others need fresh packets of seeds.

it all sounds so complicated when you start. but here on GOY everybody is realy helpfull. so ask away it will help alot...

Without wishing to confuse you more, Hippyflower, there are also biennials, which produce growth and foliage in the first year, then flower in the second, then die. Just in case you read/hear about those, too
