I have a clematis and don't want it to grow as tall as last year, is it okay to keep trimming it and will this make it bush out more?
Not sure which varieties, but I have about 6 different colours/types, would have to check, some are flowering already and I have just trimmed the longer pieces from the top.
Thanks.

If you have the time and patience, tie in the new shoots so they are nearly horizontal. Not only will the plant not be so tall, it encourages a lot more flowers too

No, its not okay, but to answer your question properly, need to know which variety of Clematis you have - some need pruning at certain times of the year, others are no pruning, and if you cut at the wrong time, you lose the flowers.
