Our allotment society has ordered far too much compost in the last year and I am worried that we may be selling compost which is two years old and which is no good. What is the lifetime of a good professional compost please?

Hi Moira - if you are referring to ready-bagged, multi-purpose, non soil-based compost then you are right in thinking that it's useful life span is quite limited.
Basically it's designed to last for 1 growing season and that's about it. After 2 years it will still make for an excellent soil improver, but will be very limited in nutrients.
