I have been growing lettuce in a small propergator. What size should they be before I transfere them to a vegetable bed?

If you have grown them in a propagator you will need to harden off before you plant outside.

And I would let them get at least 8 cm tall and wide before planting out. If they are too small, everything from potato bugs to crickes has salad!

We don't have crickets TugB and we start our salad leaves off outside in a trough, never have a real problem with their being eaten.
