I have these random "plants"? sprouting up in my flower gardens? This is my first spring in this house so I am not sure if this is normal or a weed and if I should pull them up! Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

These look like Podophllum leaves. I don't know if they are 'weeds' in America but in Scottish circles they are very desirable plants.

Oh wow, as B says Podophyllum we've got several in the garden and they are amazing! The flower sits literally on the leaf and then this huge red fruiting body appears in August/September. Here is info on the plant http://bit.ly/iii1np

Would they just 'popped up' in B's and my garden... but we do have an expanding clump :-)

I don't know how you do it Moongrower! That little short link you gave went to a web page that has this as its address -
http://www.ppws.vt.edu/scott/weed_id/podpe.htm

Where do you get the short version from and how does it get translated to the other one?

I use bit.ly links which are much shorter Beattie, when you click on them or copy and paste they open up to the full url for the website. Here is the link to their website http://bit.ly/

OK, thanks Moon Grower. My OH tells me that tiny.url does the same thing. I'd heard of them, but didn't know what they do.

Oh blimey you lot, I've no idea what you're talking about, just when you think you know enough, you discover something else mysterious (I'm referring to the link/url info above).

Don't worry Bamboo I only use shortened url links so that if I'm sending them as part of an e-mail they look neat and tidy. It is habit now to do with all links unless they will be embedded when it has to be the full url

Again with the swahili, lol! What does url stand for...

url is the text that appears in the box at the top of the page so... for this page it is

The actual letters url stand for uniform resource locator

Uniform resource locator - sounds like Disposal operative instead of binman! So I suppose that really means the address... thanks.
