You haven't said where you are in the UK, which would have been useful for diagnostic purposes, but if you're anywhere in the south, its been very dry, so likely your plant may be suffering from drought. Pruning of these is usually carried out immediately after flowering - suggest you give it a good feed and a good soak, and wait and see what happens, then remove, later on, any obviously dead growth.
