hi i just moved in to a new house the lawn is terrible it is covered in weeds and large areas of grass have died off i have cut the grass and applied evergreen can you offer any advice on what to do please

Emphasis on "dig OUT"--rotovating in will only compound the problem, if any of those weeds are perennial. Most weeds will gradually lose the battle with the grass if the lawn is mown often--at least once a week--and fed well, especially with organic fertilizer.

I agree most lawns will look much better if you work on them and reward you well. Scarifing, aerating, and weed/feeding twice this year 6 weeks apart, but most of all mow at least weekly and hope for rain, you can seed any patchy areas if you keep them wet.

Depends on the size of the lawn but you could dig out all the weeds, dig over the rest of it, level it , rake it , tamp it down and then lay turf. In other words start again and at this time of year turf will settle in very quickly if watered daily.
