The large leaf in the centre of the picture looks suspiciously like a weed to me. Am I right and if so, can anyone identify it for me?

My money's on butterbur. Has it had spiny flowers before the leaves came through?

Thanks for your responses. Beattie, I don't recall seeing flowers before the leaf, perhaps it would be as well if I removed all but one plant and watch the survivor carefully until I can see what happens and then I'll post another picture.
