This might seem a silly question but I have a large garden both at the front and back of my home. I have a lot of borders and have been trying to achieve herbaceous borders. As yet I still seem to have rather a lot of soil showing, ( I have a lot of new growth coming through). My question is when I am weeding should I get the weed out or would I be ok to dig them back into the soil and leave them?

Definitely dig them out - even annual weeds will keep on growing if you just turn them in. If you've got a large area of weed seedlings put the hoe across it to remove the tops.

If you are down there, close and personal, with the weeds, then get them out. Buried, they always have the chance to grow again.
