my pieris looks rather folorn after the harsh winter. I am worries that it may have suffered too much to survive. Do you have any tips to try to revive it?

How forlorn? If part of it is actually dead you can cut off the dead bits. If it has made any new growth at all take heart and wait and see how much recovers. In the meantime give it some ericaceous feed and a good mulch. Mine was in a bad way last year and I have cut out a lot of the old wood and pulled the remainder together with binder twine, hoping that the gaps will fill themselves in given time. Looks a bit odd and straggly but getting better!
