Hello,
I noticed on one of my Lilac bushes a couple of strange looking stems or pods. They almost look like a whole bunch of branches that formed together and there are only two. Has anyone noticed this before? Notice the branches around it look just like these when the flowers were blooming..

It looks like a thing called 'fasciation' from the Latin for a bundle of twigs. It happens when there is mechanical damage to a stem or even a flowr bud and the result is extra growth. It is not genetic so the effect is not passed on to he next generation. Prune them off. They do not harm the tree.
