This is a close up of the leaves of the 'clematis'. It has now produced some little blue flowers.

Is that an evergreen leaf, Casso ?
Is doesn't look much like a clematis leaf from here :-/
Perhaps it's me :-/

Me neither. Cannot off hand think of any Clematis with that shape leaf.

I think Cassie knows its not a clematis now - what she doesn't know is what it really is... We thought possibly Vinca, and I still do, although those leaves look remarkably bushy and I can't see any long bits of stem as you'd normally expect with Vinca.

I also think vinca still too. def not clematis.

Thank you. Yes the leaves are evergreen Louis1.

It is definitely Vinca - I've just passed ours downstairs, and currently, it looks just like this - bushy, without too many naked stems apart from round the edges.

Vinca gets my vote too.

It looks like a solanum to me.

I have to disagree Scotsgran. Have you seen Casso's original post (a few below this one) which shows this plant as a mat on the ground? And the leaves aren't like those of any Solanum I've seen....

No I did not see the original post but she has now changed the photo and that is definitely a Vinca. Probably Vinca Minor from the size of the flowers.

definitely Vinca minor. as you now know a very good ground cover plant.

20 Apr, 2011

Thank you. It hasn't always been there and I didn't plant it but yes it is good ground cover and it is green all year. I hope to get some more flowers.

Looks like my creeping myrtle.

20 Apr, 2011

Well its not, Cynthia, its definitely Vinca. Casso, when the flowers it has finish, pick up the lengths of leaves and clip them right back to prevent the plant from getting straggly.

I've just googled creeping myrtle and found that it's another name for Vinca minor. :-)

21 Apr, 2011

Thank you Bamboo. I've never had flowers on it before.

21 Apr, 2011

Ooh, is it, Beattie, then Cynthia was right - if use of common names can ever be said to be right, that is. Never heard of creeping myrtle myself...

Sounds like a character from Harry Potter. :-)

How do I say thanks?
