in one corner of our lawn we have a round jelly type fungus about 6mm in size, its black and brown in colour. it has no effect on the grass

I expect it is a Fungus called Peziza, I have it on one of my paths and a picture in my photos. I rake it up every year and bury it . Harmless but inedible, possibly poisonous but who would want to eat it?

It arises due to poor/non existent drainage in the particular area
