Lots of purple lilac out but the white is very sparse. I think I read somewhere that the dead blossom should be cut off, but this tree is way too high to reach it. Is that the problem do you think?

Hi Ginellie - Yes lilacs should be pruned after flowering and I'm in exactly the same state - My lilacs have been left for a few years so drastically need pruning this year.
I shall have a go after its flowered and suggest that you do the same..
