I have a red robinia tree which is looking very sad. the leaves are drooping but not dropping and it is still taking water. Any hints & tips or experiences to pass on?

I'm confused about which plant you mean. Do you mean the one called "Red Robin" - which is Photinia 'Red Robin' or do you mean Robinia pseudoacacia, or Black Locust?
the general advice in either case would be to keep it watered and hope for the best.
