I bought a eucalyptus tree last year and although it seems to be growing - it is about8 foot - the leaves are dull and brittle. Is it dead?
When I say it seems to be growing I mean that it has grown about 2 feet since I planted it last year. However, after the frost during last winter all the leaves are grey and brittle. The whole tree just looks dead. I have another eucalyptus tree in the garden - more than 30 years old - and even that had patches of dead leaves.

Your question's a bit confusing - you say its growing, but that the leaves are dull and brittle - how do you know its growing? If all the leaves are dead and there's no sign of new leaves coming anywhere, there's a possibility it has died over the winter, although depending on where you live, it may yet start shooting from the base if the top has been killed.
