How soon can I pull up the bulbs to store for next autumn

I agree completely with Beattie - wait till autumn or you may damage the bulb and prevent them flowering next year. I like to put some summer bedding and fresh compost on top or around spent bulbs and it helps detract them from being just green leaves.

Spring flowering bulbs always store best in the ground. The ones you bought last fall in the garden center were probably dug up only a month before, and that only to leave time for processing.

I'd leave them where they are Nannyann and plant any summer flowering plants you want over their heads. At the very least you need to leave them completely alone until the leaves have all died off naturally.
