I have aquired two rambling roses, which are about 6ft in length and have been tugged from the ground and dumped. The roots seem in pretty good shape. Shall I cut them right down to near ground level or leave them long? They are about 1.5 inches in girth and have no side shoots, so look like standards, but they are old ramblers. Thank you.

Prune them back hard if they have been pulled out of the ground rather than lifted. Keep very well watered and do not feed until they have had time to set new roots. Most feed is designed to encourage top grown - not what you need if you have just planted something and are encouraging it to grow roots.

Many thanks for all advice.

I would, give them a good feed and keep well watered and would prune them down a little, julien.
