Hallo all.
What could it be that is munching on the leaves of my apple tree?. I have noticed that most of the leaves that have been munched are on the north side of the tree. I have turned the leaves over but could not find the culprit.
Thanks for any answers.

Winter moth perhaps? The holes get bigger as the leaves expand. Pale green looper caterpillars, that bind some leaves together with silk threads. If that's the trouble you can discourage them next year by putting grease bands on the trunk in mid autumn. I think its rather late to spray now, and in any case you might not want to spray poisons on a fruit tree.
