Can anyone advise what weeds are safe to put in the compost bin?

I'd add dandelions to that along with any of the pernicious perennial weeds. Any bits of root are likely to start growing if the compost does not get hot enough (ours doesn't).

I cut the roots of the above mentioned ones and just compost the leaves. Avoid anything with seed heads unless your heap gets really hot. as they will survive happily.

Most are OK and other members may give you a longer list soon but I would definitely avoid bindweed and ground elder and probably buttercups too.
