Can anyone recommend a good white climbing rose ? I would like a scented one and would not mind if it is pretty vigorous as it is going against a 5ft fence. I particularly want white so that it really glows at the bottom of the garden at dusk.

Just a word of caution - don't get a vigorous one to train on a 5' fence - climbing roses can get to cover the wall of a house (!) - so read the label for eventual height and spread.

Good point Spitz. I would have recommended Seagull but it will grow to 25'. You can train it horizontally, you should anyway, but I still thought 5' is not high when it comes to climbers of any kind. If you have the space a pink rose like Queen Elizabeth which you can prune to different heights to ensure flowers all the way up its height would be a good choice. I cannot recommend a white one but someone may be able to help.
