What is wrong with my apple tree? It was here when we arrived 3 yrs ago. In spring it starts well but the leaves at the ends of the branches start to go pale and dusty before curling up, going brown and dying. I think there are some bits of rust on some leaves. No obvious bark damage . No visible to the naked eye pests, and nothing sticky or fluffy. I have 2 other healthy trees and fear the spread of something menacing. Any advice gratefully received ta.

Sounds like mildew. This incredibly dry April followed by wet will only exacerbate the problem I'm afraid.
It may be a variety that is particularly prone unfortunately. You could spray to prevent this but I would consider replacing if it keeps happening.
