Hydrangea,s like a rich loamy soil that is moisture retentive, and has previously been enriched with well rotted manure or compost. derekm

If you want your hydrangea to flower blue then acid soil is prefered, julien.

In containers, they like an ericaceous compost, though I would also add some water holding gel granules, too. They can use up water rapidly in a drought.
