You can blend up a lot of garlic bulbs and dilute with water and use as a spray. Blooming unless you are using an eco friendly washing up liquid, which Fairy isn't, you are causing more of a problem than by using a proprietary bug spray.

Thank you Moon grower.
Luckily I have had no problems over the last couple of years but will change.

What sort of quantities of water to garlic would you use? And do you store it or make it up each time? Thanks

Blend the garlic (about 10 whole bulbs) with enough water to make a (sort of liquid) if you blend for long enough it should break everything down. Otherwise strain and put any remaining garlic bits around your veggie plants. Dilute about 1:10. The spray acts as a systemic and is absorbed into the plant. It is safe to use on food plants as well as ornamentals. Humans don't smell the garlic after the first couple of minutes but the insects do and give the plant a wide berth. Doesn't harm anything, not even the aphids, they simply don't go near. A friend tells me it works to keep slugs of hostas but have not tried that.

How long does the garlic solution keep MG?

I've not been aware of it 'going off' but if you are spraying a large area of plants it will get used up fairly quickly. You can buy a bottle of teh concentrated stuff in most GCs.

For aphids which are my main problem I use a small amount of fairy liquid in my water spray bottle.
