yea the nursery did say it was self pollinating, it is sitting about 10ft away from a brauburn apple tree which is doing real well (around 100 apples+) is it worth keeping the plum tree or should we just get rid and cut our losses? thanks for your advice owdboggy.

An apple tree wont pollinate a plum tree. But I'd wait a couple of years and see what happens I suspect your tree is just too young.

No way, have a little patience. Victoria is a good fruiter once it gets going.

Is it in a pot or the ground?

Makes no difference in this case Pam

i was just thinking that if it was in a pot sometimes irregular watering may cause fruit drop.
Also fruit trees need a feed if they are in a pot especially when the flowering and fruiting season is in full swing. Thats what I do with mine anyway and I get lots of lovely apples and pears and the trees stay healthy.

thanks everyone for your help and advice sorry havent replied earlier had a few days away, yes its in a big pot and it gets watered and fed regularly, its 2yrs old but we will give it more time as the apple tree we brought at the same time and is in the same kind of pot is doing realy well. thanks again.

What are you feeding with?

hi moon growe we feeding it on blood, fish and bone plus flower power plus watering it well.

A fruit tree does not need 'flower power' that is for your ornamental flowering plants. Feed with the blood, fish and bone meal around once a month from April to August, just a small handful.

A general liquid fertiliser like Growmore is good too and can be diluted in the water first.:)

But use Growmore or BF&B not both.

Lack of pollination basically. Unless it was a decent size tree, you normally would not expect to get fruit for a couple of years after planting. Also despite the nurseries claiming self pollinating for these fruit trees, they do far far better if there is another one of a different type flowering nearby at the same time.
