I now realise I have planted my Fatsia japonica in the wrong place. Its been in about 5 yrs and its approx 5ft tall(maybe a bit more). How difficult would it be to dig it up and move it?

Difficult if you want the plant to survive - best to tackle it in late autumn, when the plant is going into a dormancy period.
