When is the best time to prune a very overgrown flowering currant?
Thanks

Immediately after flowering which will be in the spring. Cut any growth that has carried flowers back to a strong shoot. Also remove any dead, dying or diseased wood and see what is left. What you are aiming for is an open bush with lots of strong growth (it will probably want a good feed next spring as well). Rather than do it all in one year, I would do the above next spring and see how it reacts. Any further removal of very old wood could be done the year after along with another good feed.
