I have Thrips affecting my roses. The plants have lots of glossy leaves and an abundance of buds. When the buds have formed the sepals open and the buds dies. This problem started last summer. I pruned the roses hard in the autumn. I used Roseclear right at the beginning of this season spraying the earth around each plant as well. I would appreciate advice.

thrips wouldn't cause the buds to die like that - but capsid bug might well do so. Spray with an insecticide containing fenitrothion (I think this is only available in combination mixes now, not on its own), preferably a systemic insecticide which should mean you end up repeating every 10 days or so. Using a contact insecticide will mean spraying daily, so choose a systemic product.
