my laburnum tree has snapped due to high winds, what can I do; if anything?

Is it diseased? or do you mean a branch or do you have multiple trunks? I cannot imagine mine snapping but it only has one large trunk.

Oh how dreadful that can bring whole trees down.

There are trees down all over Scotland. At least one person has been killed by a tree falling on their car. Friends of our who live near Stirling said 2 trees were down in their neighbour's garden.

I believe that it is one of the problems with large Laburnums.
It happened to the one at my old house and it never came back. But follow the above advice first, and wait until late summer before making a decision.

Just had our neighbour visit us. We grow our veggie in a separate garden. His huge leylandii was blown down in the gales and has obliterated the veg. garden. David is going to have fun trying to remove.

oh MG that is such a shame, as you and David worked so hard to clear the ground. Hopefully you wont have too much damage underneath. fingers crossed.

Well the potatoes will survive but the brassicas are unlikely to. Hopefully our local nursery still has plants as it is too late for us to grow from seed again. Thank goodness no one was there when it happened. Getting it all off the garden is going to be interesting!

all you can do is make a clean cut so there isnt any snagged/torn wood. then hope it sprouts new shoots from the remaining trunk. failing that, the option is to dig it out.
