MY MAGNOLIA TREE NEEDS PRUNING BACK QUITE HARD AS IT IS GETTING OUT OF HAND. CAN ANYONE HELP AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT YOU CANNOT PRUNE MAGNOLIAS.

Hi Fairweather. You can prune magnolias but they don't like it very much. I think that the best I can do is to refer you to the RHS for advice at http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0603/magnolia_prune.asp.
