Hi - I'm planning to buy some old reclaimed treated grade A oak railway sleepers to build a garden path and I'm not sure if I need to lay a membrane down first or if it will be ok to just dig a hole for them to lay in? Will they go mouldy if they are buried without a membrane?

Its up to you really? Mine are edging and next to but not on a membrane. But I am concerned as you say 'for a path' though as I cannot walk on mine as they are so slippery I just go over. So I have to douse with Armillatox twice a year to get rid of the moss and make them a little less slippery but they then smell for days!
