I have a wisteria 15 years old.. no flowers have ever appeared. even though I have religiously pruned the whippy shoots etc in Aug and in Dec each year.
I have even had other trees cut down to make sure it was getting enough light. it is south facing.
I am now going to prune it very hard and shock it into life. if I lose it I lose it !! Any helpful advice

I done the same with mine a while back because the BUD and leaves were damaged by a late frost (this was the first ever flower bud in 8 years) I gave up, cut most of it down just leaving a 60cm high 'trunk' and roots to dig out when I had time. I have notice this week that buds are starting to sprout from the woody trunk. I don't know whether to be excited or not as I don't think I can wait that long again for the hope of a flower!!
I will wait until the shoots get a bit bigger and ask for advice on what to do next. I have rubbed of a few realy small one lower down the trunk as I don't want so any stems...I just hope I have done the right thing.

This was the first year my 7 year old flowered. Last August I trimmed beyond the shoots right back to "wood". It produced tons of buds this year.

This could be the way to go, Kingstone!!!! I've already cut mine to the 'wood' so I'm over that bit already. Now I can't wait til next year. When you trimmed your's to the wood Lil, did you just leave all the shoots to grow or did you select specific ones to grow on?

Hi Kingtsone and welcome to GoY. Take a look at the RHS advice on pruning your wisteria, winter pruning should be done Jan - Feb.
