Photinia Red Robin is a popular hedging choice.

You need to check as restictions to hedges/fences and or height may apply to your front garden?

hey, thankyou for suggestions have a bamboo in a pot which I might give a try whilst waiting for hedging to grow..

Hope the bamboo stays in a sturdy pot....otherwise, it's not going to be just a hedge...more like a forest!!!! - which you can't control (it can come up, vigorously through concrete, even!).....!!!!!
And then you might find yourself in trouble :/
Think about the suggestions already made...or ask another question for others to give advice...

I agree with that. Watch out because bamboo can become a real menace and very difficult to remove when you want to. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on H and then hedging for more ideas.

Thank you. Have positioned bamboo (still in pot) and am pleased with the result. A red robin hedge does look lovely or possibly a lonicera nitidia.

Depends on size of garden and your personal preference. Hedge will look nicer and give a home to the birds but will take up more space and take time to grow. Fence will be instant and take up less space.
