Cover horsetail with a polythene bottle with the bottom cut out. Gather bindweed up.....stuff in bottle, still rooted. Squirt with roundup or similar. Put a cane through the bottle to secure in the ground and a cane topper to save eye pokes or worse!!!!

Hi Phil,
You can follow all the advice already given, but, use weedkiller 2,4 D...you have to apply it a few times (according to the instructions) and it works....there's nothing like pulling out a bindweed root which is rotting and dead! :)

I know it's eccentric; but I go for the paper and find my bottles for watering and weeding by discrete 'street gleaning'. Can't drink that much stuff to supply my own needs during a recent drought. I feel good when I get back. I have tidied up the world a bit, and done myself a favour too.

I think I might consider moving house...

The celebrants coming from their nocturnal frolics in warmer weather scatter their bounty. In spite of cuts our council clears up their main drainage chanels really early. Lady or gent with cart bags and brush and picker upper. If they are still quaffing when they hit the side streets the lucozade, coke and water bottles hit the deck. On last census our town had the most long term residents.....in England. I thought it was odd....there must something they like about Essex!!!!!!!! positivity please and the BIG Whatever forever.

Hi Phil,
I have the same problem, you need to get some neat weed killer and paint it on to the leaves, on the horses tails just paint it all over, this action takes the weed killer right to the root, but wait for when the weather is going to be dry for a few days.
You will probably have to keep doing it each season, as I think you never quite get rid of it.
