please could you tell me what has happened to my strawberries this year,they are ELSANTA grown outdoors,they taste fine, just look very unatrractive, they haven't dried out,but they look like Tomatoes do if they split from irregular watering

Just to add - we did the right thing, as sweetness comes from being lenient with watering.

You have already mentioned the cause - irregular watering. I have 3 types of Strawberry in my garden - wild, Early Cambridge and Elsanto. The wild and Elsanto ones have the same pitting look as your ones/ Only the Early Cambridge seem to look perfect.
