Can I grow Peonies in Perth Western Australia ???

Hello, it is, at the moment 36c here in west australia, and it seems a bit silly contemplating planting peonies here , but I would be grateful for any assistance as I'm new to all this,

Paeonies can certainly cope with extreme temperatures (low or high) but one book I read claims they need a cold winter to encourage them to flower well
