Callicarpa.
I have one of these in bloom at the moment. It has grown only 2 long stems making an enormous V shape. I don't want to lose this year's berries which I hope will follow the rather insignificant flowers, but I would like to reshape the shrub and make it more compact. Could you tell me the best time to do this please so that I could perhaps get berries again next year?

Thanks Bamboo,
Would you prune this wide V back hard, or just halfway?

Well, as I wouldn't like the shape its making, I'd cut it back sufficiently far to stop that V shape occurring and to force new growth elsewhere.

Thanks again, Bamboo! Just nervous of cutting things but after the success with the eucalyptus I'm feeling a bit braver!

Everyone's nervous of cutting things, Pennyfarthing - that and cutting out a big border are the two things guaranteed to cause the greatest sense of panic in my clients over the years, lol!

The time to prune these is spring, just after growth begins.
