ONE MORE QUESTION

I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION (TODAY, LOL) AND I WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE. I HAVE A LARGE METAL FUNNEL. IF I TOOK THAT FUNNEL AND PUT IT OVER ONE SPECIFIC WEED, THEN SPRAYED ROUNDUP WEED KILLER INTO THE FUNNEL, WOULD THAT MAKE IT EASIER TO PULL THEM IN A FEW DAYS WITHOUT KILLING THE PLANTS AROUND IT. ALSO WOULD THAT WORK TO KILL THESE THREE PLANTS WE ALL HATE.

I avoid using herbicides as much as possible because of the damage their manufacture does to the environment, but as I understand it, Roundup works by 'accelerating' the growth of the plant and thereby weakening it. Therefore, I believe the plant needs to actually be in growth for Roundup to work. I have used it in the past on dandylions growing through the paving on my driveway (couldn't dig them up you see) and a couple of days after spraying, they suddenly shoot up tall, go all pale and then die back. So no, I don't think Roundup will kill this plant, unless you wait for it to be 'back in the green' before you try.

Roundup or agent orange...it does the same thing...it contains growth hormones that cause the broadleafed plant to literally grow itself to death... No one knows how long it takes to bio-degrade or if in fact it is cumulative...Please, see if you can find a handy-person to dig the offending plant out for you. Perhaps you can find another gardener nearby who would love to have the plant. I would gladly adopt but I live too far away! Have you tried pouring boiling water on the plant... I shudder at the thought, but at least it won't poison the environment.

Thanks Lori. It is my wish to not put anymore polluants into our world as possible. At this point I've decided to keep them and see how they turn out.

Good for you, Harli.
I'm sure you will be a convert...once they get a chance to show you who they are.
Cheers.

I would think - NO! I would dig up the lot, discard the weeds and roots as much as possible, and replant the real thing. Sorry to give you work, but it shouldn't take too long.
