I planted about 10 Agapanthus, bought from Thompson and Morgan, some months ago. They are still exactly the same size they were when they arrived. Still green, so not dead, but no sign of growth at all. They are in a border, not pots - wrong place maybe?

Maybe that's it then Ojibway and since this afternoon I have masses of pots, so I could dig them all up. Thanks.

And they like a spot where they get a jolly good baking in the sun too.

Thanks Beattie. They are in a real hot spot but no growth at all, I think a big pot in full sun then. Can I dig them up now do you think?

Seems like you've nothing to lose. Dig 'em up and squeeze 'em in! I hope it works.

Lush foliage is a happy plant to me, i would recommend buying big if you want to plant out straight away otherwise young plants should be potted for a couple of seasons, i have one in my border in its 5th year now and at my last count was 10 flower spikes, this plant too went through the same as yours for 2 seasons but when i read up on agapanthus i understood why, what books etc dont tell you is you need a degree of patience but the end result is well worth waiting for.

Agapanthus flower when THEY want to, not when you make a fuss of them. One year mine got nearly killed by frost. I put the sad remains in a smaller pot and it produced 2 flowers 1st time round. Last year several flowers in a bigger pot. This year none in same pot. Can't win.

Sounds like anything can happen then - thanks everyone.

Someone told me recently - and I am just passing this on - that Agapanthus flower better when potbound?
